Just a quick update to tell you that I got a letter today, saying that I got admitted to the drawing test ! They accepted my portfolio and I'm gonna be doing the drawing test the 15th, interview the 16th! WOOOOO!!

This brought me a leap closer to getting into the animation education. I am just floating on air right now! :D

Updates

I almost doubled my deviation count. 10 - I kid you not - 10 deviations since last. Concidering how little I submit, and how much I take down, it's pretty big for me. They'll probably end up in scraps eventually, when I get more work done. Though I'm not entirely sure if they will, actually....I looove the new category setting here on dA...

This one is actually old now. It's Prince Edward from the movie Enchanted. Love that character - seeing this pic now always makes me giggle.

Some long studies.

Croquis

Sketching

A picture which is actually inspired by my boyfriend...

Some character design

And finally, some perspective drawings.

FeatFav

By *Jerome-K-Moore . What can I say, Quest For Camelot is one of my all-time favorite animated movies, and I love the character concepts and art style. These are apparently official drawings, and I must say they look VERY professional too! Go check his gallery out, there's a whole bunch of good WB drawings in there, as well as others. Great work, *Jerome-K-Moore :)

Projects

With the portfolio done and all, perhaps it's time to start a new project, or better yet, dig up an old one left behind....ah, the possibilities... :)

Links

Right, promised you some indie games, here they are.

First of all, a link to Aquaria: [link]

The video game name generater competition - it's coffee break fun and general hilarity most of it, and it's really worth checking out, because it's friggin' funny :D : [link]

This little wonderful flash game that I'll most like return to, it's got some great physics: [link]

And here's an independent game list, although there's several of them out there, so make a search: [link]

 Small world indeed! And those drawings look really good.

And you're right about learning. Our teachers urge us to go seek out critique and study the world around us (like you suggested, study life :) ) to learn more, and I'm doing my best to do so. I find myself slowly starting to experience the world in a new way too. It's funny what you can see if you take the time to look. :D

All of us are historians to some degree, recognizing the extreme value of learning from our collective past.

I find it ironic that I recently posted some freelance work I did for a very famous company based there in Denmark: LEGO. LOL!! Small world!

Thanks a whole bunch! :D

Whoa, you turned professional at 18 ? Man, I feel like I've got so much to catch up to now. ^^; But of course people start at different times and ages, so even if I won't turn professional for a few more years, it's alright. ^^

I guess the school I'm trying to get into is a sort of college - we don't have actual colleges in Denmark, but the natural academic choice after Gymnasium (Danish equivalent of High School, though we start at a later age) is probably University. Though some people further educate themselves before going that way. We have a University of Arts, but it's sculpturing and painting as well as art history, and drawing - where drawing is really the only one out of these I wanna do. (though art history is also nice, I'm just not looking to be a historian: :P )

So I'm trying to get admitted here: [link] Currently I'm taking the drawing course associated with the place, and now I'm waiting for answer on whether I got into the test for the character education, or not...I heard that last year there were 250 applicants....whereas they accept 40-something for a test....and then 20-30 something for the school.... ^^; So it's veeery narrow. But it's the school I wanna attend, as they are very specialized and give you a taste of all the different aspects of animating and character creating. During the last year, you get to work as a trainee someplace in the industry, and sometimes they hire their trainees for jobs. Last years graduates all had jobs before their final exam, so the prospects look good so far. :D But well, much can change in a couple of years. If I don't get in this time, I'll work for a year and then try again. ;)

Thank you so much for the info, and not to worry, I'll not steal your job, haha! :D I probably won't even end up working in the same field as you. I was thinking of maybe becoming a storyboarder.... :)

Hmm...

Well, the best education an artist can get is in observing life, and practicing as much as possible. Talent is inherent, as is aptitude. The rest is hard work, and dedication, with a healthy nurturing of your innate love and desire. Along the way, you develop new skills, and formal training hones these skills as well as your mental discipline, sense of professionalism, knowledge of techniques and materials, and it gives you a comprehensive respect and appreciation for all-important art history.

Now, I never attended art college, as much as I may have liked to. My ability is inherited from my father, who was also a professional illustrator. And I graduated from the High School of Art & Design, in New York City. After that, I became professional soon after at the age of 18, starting at DC Comics as a penciller. Since then, my informal training has been in my continual study, practice, and association with my fellow professional artists.
So, essentially, because I have no official degree, I am regarded as "self-taught," as ridiculous as that truly is. I don't believe there is such a thing as a self taught ANYthing, and it negates the influence of teachers in whatever capacity they are found, whether direct or indirect.

I would recommend college, if possible. Also, grab any good art book that you can, and NEVER underestimate the importance of listening, and listening well.

I hope that helps. Best of success to you! Just, please don't take MY job! LOL! :)

Maybe, when I'm fifty years old, hehe! :D But I know for sure that I'll give it my best, and every day I feel I'm coming a little bit closer. :)

I'm still finding my voice so to say, and I'm enjoying every step on the way. ^^

Oh, inquiry of interest: What kind of education to you have? Seeing as you're one of the people I really admire, what with being able to draw so well and make money of it too, I'd love to know what paths you've taken to get where you are today. :)

Well, I'm sure your skills will surpass mine, as long as you follow your dreams to your heart's content.

What's most important is your own individual expression, and being true to that.
